Bright lights, big buildings, and a booming music scene make Austin a hub for many people, especially those looking to strike out on their own after high school graduation comes to a close. High school seniors are often left with the harsh reality of choosing between the best degree programs, the best college campuses, and which locations have the right future job prospects after graduation.
With all of those factors to consider, there’s a yearly study that looks at 415 cities across America to decide what cities can be the best and worst for college students. The study broke down the cities into classifications of large (300,000+ residents), medium (125,000 – 300,000 residents), and small (125,000 or fewer residents).
Austin came out on top as the best college town in a large city and as the best college town overall. There were several factors that were considered in the rankings, but they each fell into three main categories of academic and economic opportunities, affordability, and social atmosphere.
It should come as no surprise that Austin scored highly in the social atmosphere category with the variety of activities we have for residents to participate in, the summer-like weather we have a majority of the year, and the proximity to everything you could ever want or need in a town.
Austin also came in pretty high on the list for academic and economic opportunities, which we can only assume will get better as the years pass on as the city continues to welcome big businesses, become the main headquarters for startups, and push for residents to unleash their inner entrepreneur.
Austin continues to be a great launching pad for so many talented individuals and businesses, and we can only expect more of the same as 2020 looms closer and closer.
