ACTIVE Life’s After School Program has been a core enterprise since the founding of the organization in 2003. The program offers top flight curriculum and instructors to schools that are eligible through ACE/21st Century grant funding. Our instructors provide a healthy environment for children after school where they participate in ACTIVE Life games and learn about the importance of nutrition.

At ACTIVE Life, our goal is to foster healthy nutrition and athletic growth for all students. We are leading the charge to defeat childhood obesity and believe every child should have the knowledge and opportunity to live a happy, healthy life.

BeatLab and Emergencia – Sound Recording and Film Production

Emergencia is an international youth film competition that is part of the Cine Las Americas International Film Festival. In this program students from Cine Las Americas’ after school outreach programs review films that arrive in response to an international call for entries. The students then choose the best entries, which are screened during the festival, and grant an award to the best film.

BeatLab is an after school program that brings together the talent and experience of professional musicians and record producers, with the latest digital music production technology, to elementary, middle and high school class rooms.

Creativity Club (C-Club) is an after school program that is held at participating AISD elementary schools and on-site at the Dougherty Arts School. Students explore arts educational programming through lessons taught in various artistic mediums and disciplines. Creativity Club’s curriculum follows a process-based learning model with lesson plans developed by our Instructors in response to monthly themes that emphasize cultural studies, art history, and creative techniques. This method allows every project to be responsive to the students’ creative interests as well as incorporate the Instructors’ own artistic expertise. Instructors are carefully chosen so that each site provides diverse cultural arts experiences for all participants in the areas of visual, performing and media arts.
