The Latest Austin-Area School Ratings

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has published a comparison of Central Texas schools for the 2014 school year. The comparison looked at 24 school districts in the region, and every district met the Rating Standard. The Rating Standard is measured by up to 4 different indexes. For more information on those indexes, visit the TEA website.

Other notable statistics were given on:

  • STAAR Percent at Phase-In
  • Tax Rate
  • Operating Expenditures-Program (per student)
  • Number of Students per Teacher

To provide an overview of what the data revealed let’s start with the tax rate. If you live in Texas you are already enjoying the lack of income taxes, but depending on where you live you may be acutely aware property taxes can be very high. Luling comes in at the lowest with a rate of just 1.115, with the average tax rate in Central Texas for 2014 coming in at approximately 1.383.

Regarding, the “STAAR Percent at Phase-In”, Lake Travis District had the highest percentage of students who passed the exam with 94% passing. Luling had the lowest percentage pass with just 58%.

With Operating Expenditures Dripping Springs came in the lowest with just $4,551 per student while also having the highest number of students per teacher at 17.5. However, Dripping Springs also had the second highest pass rate on the STAAR exam just behind Lake Travis with 92%.
